My Dear Friends,

This newsletter is quite long - stay with it; I'm sure you will find it rewarding.

The transformation of the planet is underway. Like a multi-dimensional chess game, the sides are maneuvering toward their preferred outcome. Stay focused and pay close attention to what is happening about you. We are receiving more assistance from our non-human friends than ever before. Now it is up to us to determine the direction of this momentous event.

Those in control of the existing power structure would have us believe that the current situation is business as usual, just another day in the life of a three dimensional world. All the while, beyond the awareness of most of the population, they are busy consolidating their wealth and power. All the while, their media and entertainment colossus is spewing out its pabulum keeping us "informed" and happy, and diverted from the larger truth. All the while, the powerful are near panic that their centuries-old ruse might be coming to an end, that the billions of victims they had convinced to depend upon them are waking up, that the larger truth might penetrate the sleeping masses. They are alarmed that their carefully constructed game might give way to a peaceful, loving, gentle, cooperative, sustainable future, a future that will surely exclude them and their allies among the extraplanetary beings.

Those who sense the energies of change know that we have the opportunity to overcome the current paradigm and its devolving future. We can create a higher functioning world, a world that serves the best interests of each and every human, a world in harmony with the non-human inhabitants of this planet, and a world that is an active participant with the rest of the universe. We have that ability. And how do extraplanetary beings figure into all this? We are being coached and cheered onward by a massive gathering of extraplanetary beings, and by the presence on our planet of many who incarnated at this time.

I have just returned from two weeks in the desert southwest. I spent several wonderful days in the land of the Hopi, soaked up the spiritual grandeur of places like Monument Valley and the Grand Canyon, and attended the International UFO Congress.

For hundreds of years, the Hopi have kept the Fifth World vision (5th Dimensional Reality) for our planet in their legends, in their ceremonies, and in their hearts. They say that we have now begun the process of emerging to that Fifth World. During my brief stay there, I participated in efforts to move the Fifth World closer to realization by triggering energies and opening portals. My time there reinforced the essentially non-physical nature of the transformation taking place, and the non-physical destination of those who choose to participate.

For those of you who have read, DECIMAL, you already know that Monument Valley plays a vital role in the extraterrestrial contact portrayed in that story. Revisiting there reconnected my higher self to certain energies, enabled me to re-center, and renewed my commitment to help the enlightened transformation of our world. I also realized just how carefully my life has been orchestrated, each event contributing to who I am today. Looking back, I am most grateful for that micro-management.

The UFO Congress is always an interesting adventure: A week of presentations spanning many facets of the larger reality, and an opportunity to connect with friends old and new. I am gaining an appreciation that everyone's experience is valid, that all research provides answers, and that each person's interpretation presents a piece of the beautiful unfolding, not unlike the individual instruments of an orchestra.

During these two weeks, I confronted the issue of exactly how I go about creating my own reality. This is a subject, in all its facets, with which I am just becoming comfortable. I am just beginning to appreciate how powerful is my each and every thought, how extraordinarily powerful are our collective thoughts.

For example, as an entrepreneur, I knew that, by imagining something, I was able to create new products and new enterprises where none existed before. I have understood for quite some time that my physical body was but a slower frequency, and that all material creation is but energy at its slowest. I now understand my role in creating my every experience, and understand that I incarnated here for a purpose. I also fathom that there are no good or bad experiences, just experiences.

I comprehend that my every thought radiates into the cosmos to be carefully considered and recorded, that my dreams and imagination are as real as that which surrounds me physically, and that I will manifest my desires in one way or the other. The realization that every thought of every one of my earthly brothers and sisters similarly radiates to the universe makes me very sad. If only they understood...

If perchance, we were to collectively focus our thoughts on what might be for our planet, focus our intentions on creating that wondrous future, we could indeed create it. Yes, we are but ordinary individuals - but we are individually powerful beyond our wildest imagination. Yes, we are not organized - there is no need to be. The hundredth monkey principle is alive and well.

Do not fall into the daily drama being spun by the major media. Watch a few minutes of the news and you'll see the latest on pedafilila, the latest murder, the latest terrorist incident, the latest corrupt corporate executive, the latest designer drug, fashion, entertainment, gossip, etc, etc. The real truth is the larger reality. The real story is the pending transition of our planet; you will not find it on the major media. Do not let them convince you otherwise. Note: The February 22nd ABC Special was a masterful piece of propaganda to convince the unweary that UFOs are just a myth.

In the days to come, as the existing structures and systems collapse, as the elite thrash about attempting to keep their power and wealth, keep in mind how individually powerful you are, that your thoughts, your intentions, hold the key to a new planetary paradigm, the Cosmic Paradigm. Reach out to the others who hold that truth. Keep the vision of a wondrous new 5th Dimensional planet uppermost in your hearts. Collectively, we can prevail. We must prevail for the highest good of all inhabitants of the galaxy.

Interested in taking a more active role, in contributing your energy, your thoughts to activate the hundredth monkey? JOIN The Cosmic Paradigm Network where we support each other during this time of transition, exchange fragments of the larger truth, and share contact experiences. We now have members from around the globe who are holding the Cosmic Paradigm in their hearts, taking step to make it a reality. Go to http://www.cosmicparadigm.com/Join_CPN.html

In Truth and Love,

Mark

P.S. Thanks to all who are opening their minds and hearts to meeting with me, and for arranging gatherings where I can share with your friends. I am looking forward to discussing much more than can be covered in these emails. There is still time to get on my itinerary.

In response to why I am doing this, it is to connect with those who are open to influencing the forthcoming transition, and to encourage them to hold the vision. I am also interested in learning your truth as I do not believe I have all the answers.

My journey about the U.S. and Canada will begin as scheduled on June 15th. (My wife Heidi and I are in the process of outfitting our 5th wheel trailer and downsizing our household to fit.) Mid June and early July will see us in Colorado and New Mexico (I'm presenting in Roswell on July 4th). Then we travel to the San Francisco area, making stops in Colorado, Utah, and Nevada. By mid August, we are in Oregon, in late August and September in Washington, British Columbia, and Idaho. Then we head eastward for a gathering the first weekend of October in Wisconsin, back through Colorado to Arizona and Southern California for a couple of months, then we travel across the southern U.S. toward Florida.

P.P.S. The following articles confirm some of what I write about. 1. Our planet is being bombarded with cosmic radiation; our minds and DNA are shifting. 2. U.S. Currency is being subjected to terrific inflation pressures. 3. In 2004, in DECIMAL, I wrote about a huge quake in the Pacific Northwest. 4. A newsletter that depicts the viewpoint of a knowledgeable investor.

Large Cosmic Blast Scars Atmosphere above United States Florida Region, Continuing Government Lies Not Being Believed

By: Sorcha Faal, and as reported to her Russian Subscribers

March 12, 2005

Reports have reached us today confirming that our earth has been struck yet again by another energy blast and this as powerful as to cause the shaking of the earth itself.

As we can read from the United States Newspaper the St. Petersburg Times (Florida) in this report titled “Sonic booms shake up area”, and which says, "The shaking registered on the U.S. Geological Survey seismograph in Orlando, measuring 2.7 on the Richter Scale, the equivalent of a weak earthquake. Central Florida is not an active earthquake area, said USGS duty officer Madeleine Zirbes."

Western propaganda sources are attributing this latest cosmic blast to a ‘sonic boom’ being caused by military aircraft, and as they have done in the past, and relying on their citizens not realizing the impossibility of this happening, as if even any aircraft breaking the sound barrier could produce the energy equivalent of  18 tons of TNT which would be equal to a 2.7 Richter Scale earthquake event.

Even to this being so we can read from this report from the Dryden Flight Research Center of the United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration, NASA, titled “Sonic Booms FS-2003-11-016 DFRC”, and which says, "The width of the boom "carpet" beneath the aircraft is about one mile for each 1000 feet of altitude. An aircraft, for example, flying supersonic at 50,000 feet can produce a sonic boom cone about 50 miles wide. The sonic boom, however, will not be uniform. Maxi-mum intensity is directly beneath the aircraft, and decreases as the lateral distance from the flight path increases until it ceases to exist because the shockwaves refract away from the ground."

Not even close, by any measurements known to scientists, can the sonic boom effects of known aircraft direct towards the ground such forces to cause an earthquake, but to continuing these lies to their people they continue to do.  Only to their fear that their citizens might know the true extent of the energy blasts and how the earths weather systems and continental plates are in chaos are these lies being told.

To their credit many peoples of the world do not believe these lies, and as we can read from one Australian citizen about the early February, 2005 event that occurred in Melbourne, Australia and who has said;

"I heard the rumbling and thought, "cool, a storm", because I love storms and always anticipate them. After about 10 minutes, I thought to myself: "That'd be right, all we get is one clap of thunder". But it was the weirdest sounding thunder that I have ever heard. It went on and on and on. It was extremely loud. Much louder than a good belt of thunder.  I can say one thing: It certainly wasn't a "sonic boom". This rumbling went for at least 20 seconds. I've seen jets in airshows and the sonic boom you'd hear from a jet sounded nothing like what I heard last night at all. It was way too loud and way too constant to be a sonic boom."

Even to the September, 2004 event in England we can read as reported from the BBC in this news report titled, "Sonic boom theory for 'explosion'", and which says, "A loud explosion which sent residents running for cover has been heard in Wales for the second time in less than a week.  Windows and homes shook in areas of Denbighshire and Conwy at around 17.50BST on Tuesday."

To the December 21, 2004 energy blast that also affected England we can read in this report from the Manchester Newspaper in this article titled, "Eurofighter boom sparks quake scare", and which says, "The new supersonic Eurofighter Typhoon jet caused an earthquake scare in Merseyside and Lancashire during a test flight today. Tremors were felt just after noon. Emergency services were inundated with calls from people who feared there had been an earthquake."

The February 16, 2005 energy blast over Iran also nearly caused a major conflict to erupt in this troubled region, and as we can read as reported by the United States Boston Globe Newspaper in their article titled, "Iran blast fuels fears of attack", and which says, "TEHRAN -- An explosion in a southern city some 110 miles from a nuclear facility sparked fears yesterday of a missile attack, and Iranian authorities gave conflicting explanations for the blast, including friendly fire in a military area and construction work."

To the differences that human beings would notice between ‘sonic boom’ events being caused by military aircraft and those caused by the earth’s atmosphere the United States Los Alamos National Laboratory has given this example in their report titled "Sonic Booms: Researchers are using a network of microphones to track meteors as they burst into Earth's atmosphere", we can read this description;

"On Oct. 9, 1997, a meteor with an energy corresponding to about 500 tons of TNT entered the atmosphere over El Paso, Texas. The object was only about a yard in diameter, ReVelle estimates, but it startled eyewitnesses.  There was an initial blast that was very loud, like an explosion, followed by long-duration sound like a train, a roar almost," ReVelle said. One woman told ReVelle of being disoriented by the initial explosion as the meteor broke apart. A park ranger said his ears rang for a half hour afterward."

Today as the world grows ever closer towards great cataclysmic changes these Western peoples would be better served by ignoring the lies of their propagandists and turn back towards the knowledge of their ancient ancestors, who not only knew about these present events, but had built and preserved the world over their warnings to the human people of today.  For indeed today the Thunder Gods of old have returned.

The Sea Change in Monetary Thought

By Chris Mayer

Alexandria, VA

IT WAS GUSTAVE Le Bon (1841-1931), the French psychologist and sociologist, who remarked that the great upheavals in human history, the great events, were less important than the subtle, but far more powerful, underlying changes in the ideas held by the masses of people.

"The true historic upheavals are not those which astonish us with their grandeur and violence," Le Bon wrote. "The only important changes...affect ideas, conceptions, and beliefs. The memorable events of history are visible effects of the invisible changes of human thought." The reason great events are rare, Le Bon thought, is because the collective beliefs of a people are slow to change.

These collective thoughts and ideas are the sturdy substratum of the human condition. However, they can and do shift, and these tectonic movements can cause violent quakes that permanently alter the more visible aspects of human institutions.

The 20th century was undeniably bloody and marked by extraordinary change. It can be argued that in no other century saw such radical change. One of these epochal transformations, largely unappreciated by the mass of people, was the sea change in monetary thought.

For a long time, it was financial orthodoxy that a strong nation needed a strong currency. And a strong currency was one that could be redeemed in specie -- metals like gold and silver. Indeed, it was seen almost as a moral mandate, and a proud country pointed to its currency as a sign of its strength. What pride the old Germans had in the old stable mark, or the Swiss in their sturdy franc!

Though governments and their schemers had long tried to slip the shackles put upon them by hard money, they often did not escape for long, and disastrous consequences followed these wanderings from the plumb line of monetary convention (witness the adventures of John Law, for one, or the experiences of those unfortunates who held on to the old continentals issued during the American Revolution -- the examples are nearly endless).

In the 20th century, though, the powers vested in governments managed to break the chains, also with disastrous consequences -- destructive wars, massive inflations, and countless bankruptcies of nations, men, and businesses. However, the chief difference was that the people of the 20th century never put the chains back on, because they had finally come to believe in the theory of inflation.

I was thinking of these things recently after reading Felix Somary's memoirs, The Raven of Zurich. Originally published in German in 1960, they were published again in English in 1986. Somary was dubbed the Raven of Zurich because of his gloomy predictions. Yet he was often right. He anticipated World War I, the stock boom, the ensuing Depression, World War II, and the Cold War. He was a macro theorist and futurologist nonpareil.

He began as a banker in Vienna and then worked for various governments in several different diplomatic roles. As an old hard-money man, his memoirs give us his reflections on the devastating bonfire of paper currencies that occurred in the first half of the 20th century and whose embers still smolder today.

In the First World War, Austria and Germany financed their efforts by issuing bonds and printing money. The consequences of these actions were not widely foreseen, because, as Somary writes, "After a century of stable money, the population understood nothing about inflation." When the war ended, the German mark began its descent. By the 1920s, the mark was totally destroyed, burned to nothingness in a now-famous episode of hyperinflation.

Somary writes that at various times, the inflation could have been stopped by choking it off at the source -- by restraining the creation of money itself. There is a story, probably apocryphal, about when the great economist Ludwig von Mises was asked how to stop the depreciation of the mark. He supposedly walked with his inquirer to the place where the government was feverishly printing marks. "Make it stop," he said. The printing of marks, of course, continued unabated. It took Rome over four centuries to destroy its currency completely; Germany and Austria managed the trick in just nine years.

Somary asks, "How often since has the same thing been repeated?" The inflation comes, people praise it, business picks up, the size of government is expanded, and entitlements swell. Debts accumulate. "It was, and remains, more popular to let things go on this way than to try to stop the inflation," Somary observes, "hoping somehow that someone else will pay the piper."

You can bet this is not the type of news those living in the Vancouver Island and Seattle area want to hear.

"My colleagues and I describe this region as a geological train wreck," says USGS geologist Ray Wells."

"Though new danger zones are being mapped, the U.S. Pacific Northwest remains the most vulnerable. The area is a dangerous place because it sits on a continental plate that meets a seafloor plate 30 to 90 miles offshore. The boundary between the two plates, stretching 700 miles from British Columbia to Northern California, is called the Cascadia subduction zone.

Three hundred years of tectonic pressure has now built up since the 1700 tsunami occurred.

A recent study estimates that 10 million people on the U.S. West Coast would be affected by a Cascadia subduction-zone quake. Today, the shaking from a quake of the same magnitude would damage 200 highway bridges, put Pacific ports out of business for months, and generate shock waves capable of toppling tall buildings and long bridges in Seattle and Portland.

In any event, Seattle is one of the world's worst places for an earthquake. Part of the city sits on a soft basin of poorly consolidated sedimentary rocks, which could easily become unstable in a shock. Adding to the problem, the city's harbor sits on mud flats, which can liquefy if shocked.

"My colleagues and I describe this region as a geological train wreck," says USGS geologist Ray Wells."

Over 3000 Earthquakes within 72 Hours off NW Coast

March 6th 2005

by Mitch Battros - ECTV

This story has caught fire. Seismologist and Geologist are rushing in from all over the world to witness this event. At this time the only press release is "Don't worry; the earthquakes are not large enough to create a tsunami."

That being said, the excitement is more about witnessing a growing "volcano" right off the coast of Vancouver Island. A scientific SWAT team from Seattle is sailing this afternoon for a spot off the coast of Vancouver Island, where they suspect an underwater eruption is under way.

"We really don't know what to expect," said Edward Baker, an oceanographer at the Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory, which is part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). "If we're very lucky, we may get pictures of brand-new lava on the seafloor."

This news release began as a slow simmer, and has now picked up speed and a whole lot of attention, and rightfully so. Recent studies of past earthquakes indicate a natural cyclical pattern. Although it may be a natural periodic occurrence, no one knows exactly when, how and where the next round of seismic events will unfold. It appears the most vulnerable areas are U.S. Midwest (New Madrid), eastern Canada, Australia and Germany.

In a recent Smithsonian Institute article reports: "Three hundred years of tectonic pressure has now built up since the 1700 tsunami occurred. A recent study estimates that 10 million people on the U.S. West Coast would be affected by a Cascadia subduction-zone quake. Today, the shaking from a quake of the same magnitude would damage 200 highway bridges, put Pacific ports out of business for months, and generate shock waves capable of toppling tall buildings and long bridges in Seattle and Portland."

Early this morning I received an email from H.C. who is one of our ECTV subscribers with a link to the PNSN (Pacific Northwest Seismograph Network). Looks like there is another round of earthquake swarms in progress! Below are the links to the seismographs.

Geology Is Destiny

by Byron W. King

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

ONE OF THE brightest days of my career was back when I learned that Gulf Oil Co. had hit it big on one of my drilling proposals in an underexplored part of the Permian Basin. Not only was I right about where to drill, and at what target to aim the drill bit, I was lucky.

West Texas is full of dry holes, every one of them being somebody's former bright idea. One of those dry holes could have had my fingerprint on it. But that is not how it worked out. Yes, I was lucky. And Gulf had some great oil finders on the team. So not only was I lucky, I was fortunate. You can't ask for more than that.

It is good to be lucky. And it is lucky for someone to be good, if you know what I mean. Also, there is something to be said for finding all of the oil that one will ever use in one's life. I can drive fast without feeling guilt.

Over many years, I have read dozens of books on petroleum geology and structural geology and pondered the intricacies of geological and tectonic maps. I have pulled off many a highway onto the road berm to look at the rocks of a road cut. I have stared at seismic interpretations, trying to envision a world of rock at a depth. I have spent many days on the deck of a drilling rig and looking at cuttings, from Texas to Bahrain. I have sought out really smart people who know what they are talking about and pumped them for anything they could tell me. I have tried to stay informed about what is going on in the world of science in general, and earth science in particular.

(I even have an article coming up in Whiskey & Gunpowder on thermodynamics...but I won't tell anybody up front that it is about thermodynamics. That might scare people off. Y'know... "science is hard," and all that stuff.  I will wait until I explain it to them, then tell them that it was about thermodynamics. Won't they be surprised!)

As for Peak Oil, I have read most of what professor Kenneth Deffeyes of Princeton (not a bad school...) and Colin Campbell and Matt Simmons et al. have written on the subject. Plus, I have read a lot of the better summaries and insightful commentaries by more general science writers (Amory Lovins and Richard Heinberg come to mind). Basically, I am on board with what they are saying. Global oil production is in the process of "peaking," and soon it will level off, and then commence to decline.

Geology predicts it, and who am I to argue with geology?

Peak Oil is a real phenomenon, based on hard science. Ignore it at your peril. At root, the Peak Oil guys are right. How can I emphasize it properly? OK, they are "right, right, right." Everybody else is "wrong, wrong, wrong." These latter folks -- who are wrong, by the way -- are the equivalent of the violin section that played at the burning of Rome. Party on, dudes, but if everybody else stays wrong long enough, then, politically and economically, we will all be done for.

Despite the theories of so-called abiotic oil that are floating around (sort of the petroleum equivalent of the story of the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow), my belief is that oil comes from the unoxidized remains of ancient life forms. The remains of ancient life forms have been, essentially, cooked and refined to a higher energy state of matter by the Earth's tectonic energy (shhh...it's that "thermodynamics" stuff again). Now they are trapped inside bodies of sedimentary rocks by structure and/or stratigraphy.

Sediments are found, obviously, in sedimentary basins. We (i.e. mankind) know where all of the basins are on the crust of the Earth (well, OK, there might be a few more basins hidden under something else, or another that does not look like a basin). In the past century, we have pretty much mapped what is out there and identified the potential source rocks.

Beyond the big-picture fieldwork of geology, it is an effort that spans several generations to prospect and discover the oil resources, convert them to defined reserves, and pump them out and use 'em up. And we have been doing it for, oh, several generations. Darn...are we at the end of the line? Ummmm...yes. What do I mean?

There is only so much sedimentary volume in the basins of the Earth's crust. Yes, the volume is a very big number, but then you have to factor in the fact that oil generation is a very tricky thing for the Earth to accomplish. You have to have just the right mix of sediments, just the right sequence of deposition and burial and subsidence, just the right thermal history and pressure-temperature regime, plus just the right kind of tectonic activity and structural events. You have to be very, very patient. A watched pot never boils, you know.

And then, after all of that past geological activity -- bringing the matter into the here and now -- you have to have smart geologists and geophysicists and engineers who can figure it out. You have to have an industrial base of astonishing complexity and investors who want to risk their dough poking holes in rock formations out in wildcat country. And did I say that you have to be lucky? After all of that, it only looks easy.

Are we "running out" of oil? No. For example, take an oil well called the McClintock No. 1,drilled south of Titusville, Pa., in 1861. That well is still producing Pennsylvania-grade crude oil 144 years later. Just not very much. Hardly any, in fact -- maybe a couple of barrels per week -- but enough to pay the costs of lifting the greenish goo out of the ground. So the oil is down there, but the reservoir energy is depleted. Hence, the oil does not want to flow from its happy home in the Devonian-age rock to the borehole in the ground. Without reservoir energy, oil moves very slowly. Oil is funny that way.

And 144 years from now, Saudi Arabia's Ghawar field will still be producing oil from its thousands of wells, just not 4 million barrels per day like we see now. Maybe 40,000 barrels per day. Inshallah, God willing. And every drop of that substance will probably be worth fighting over. But that's another story line.

Is Peak Oil an "ominous event"? Only if you really think about it and come to understand it.

If you don't really think about Peak Oil or understand it, it is no big deal. It is kind of like the people in Sri Lanka who heard that there would be a big wave hitting the shore a few hours after the Dec. 26, 2004, earthquake in Indonesia and went down to the beach to watch. So if you understand Peak Oil, yes, it's a problem. If you don't understand it, hey...surf's up.

My explanation for why most people in leadership positions don't have a feel for Peak Oil is called cognitive dissonance. People hold two diametrically opposed concepts in their heads at the same time. It seems pretty intuitive that every time you pump out one barrel, that is one less barrel remaining in the ground. But the world has pumped out so much oil for so long that it seems kind of natural, like the stream of water that flows from the mountains to the river and thence to the sea. It just kind of happens, and it happens on a scale so vast that it is no big deal.

But that vast scale in and of itself is the problem. In the case of oil, it is a big deal...the easy stuff is pretty much gone. Pumped and burned, and as near as the local traffic jam.

Oil is not and never was a birthright of humanity, let alone of the good citizens within the political jurisdiction of the United States of America. This country, and our culture, has been so lucky for so long that we as a nation have confused luck with entitlement. We think that because we have things like "free speech" and "trial by jury" in this fair land our economy grew to make us rich and powerful. Not to be disrespectful of the Bill of Rights, but I think that the abundance of oil (and coal and natural gas) may have had something to do with it as well.

The "shining city on a hill" shone so brightly only because Mr. Rockefeller and his ilk bought barrels of petroleum from the well drillers of northwestern Pennsylvania and converted the petroliferous substance into lamp kerosene. No oil, no "shining city on a hill."

Think whatever you want about Rockefeller. Most people, and even most modern historians of the 19th century (and I have met many of them), cannot even begin to describe what Rockefeller did in and to the oil fields and refining business of the nation. But I mention his name merely to illustrate the point that the American people and their nation's industries had to work hard to make their own national luck (like lucky me, in my own small way, when I worked at Gulf, if you don't mind my saying so).

As a nation, we worked very hard. Yes we did. And we can feel good about it. For the most part, the history is pretty clear that it took U.S. technology to find and develop most of the oil not just in the United States, but also in most of the rest of the world. (Where others did it in other parts of the world, they mostly used pirated U.S. technology, so it is our national accomplishment by implication.) So bravo to us and our kith and kin! As to the present deindustrialization of the U.S. economy...another discussion for another time.

Now, however, we are confronted with the predicament that oil is going to get expensive. Maybe the price will fluctuate with market forces and big moneybags trading in and out. But the long-term trend is up -- up and expensive. But I do not wish to understate the case. We are headed for oil that is not just expensive, but scarce at any price.

Scarce at any price? This is one of those things that they call a "strategic problem" up at the Naval War College. In the 20th century, nations waged war for oil when it was not so hard to find and relatively cheap to purchase on world markets. What will nations do in the 21st century now that oil is becoming truly scarce?

Consider a future in which there will be two kinds of nations in the world...those that have access to oil and those that don't. And I mean access at any price. For example, the Chinese -- who have a well-deserved reputation of thinking for the long term -- are buying up old oil fields in Venezuela, not to mention the rights to the Athabasca tar sands, in Alberta, Canada. We live in interesting times.

Oil discoveries have been on the downside for decades. At the same time, oil production and daily consumption have been increasing from a diminishing reserve base. The trends are not our friends. The production and the reserve curves are intersecting. And when the big rollover occurs and global oil production flattens out for the long term, then enters the irreversible decline. I believe that people will suffer from mass psychosis as century-old concepts of oil entitlement start to flat line. Most modern Western brains -- conditioned as most of them are to think in terms of happy, statist conclusions -- are simply not wired for what people used to call "country living."

If mankind can transition to something else, like hydrogen fuel or improved nuclear-generated electricity (Mankind? Try just the U.S. of A.)...that would be great. But my opinion is that it will not be pretty as we get there.

To end on a slightly upbeat note, at least we are free to talk about it, even if only a few people are listening.

Thanks for listening.

Until we meet again...

Greg's note:  If the impending day of peak oil wasn't bad enough, now we must stave off the meteoric rise of China and India - and their insatiable oil appetites - or we might find that we're "bought out" of the world oil market.  Even more ominous, our largest foreign oil source, Canada, has just inked a deal to leech the largest oil sands field in the world right into tankers bound for China...look here for more on that.
