Man Reports Streak Of Light ; Strange Sights Nothing New In Area Skies
Augusta - Bobby Copeland is convinced that what he saw over his home wasn't an airplane. It must have been something else - something unknown to him.
"It disappeared into the horizon in a twinkle of an eye," said the 64-year-old Augusta resident, referring to a streak of light that he says he recently saw shoot across the sky near Bobby Jones Expressway and U.S. Highway 25.
"I would stake my life on it that it wasn't an airplane that we know of," he said.
According to the National UFO Reporting Center, UFO sightings have been reported throughout the Augusta area since 1965. Of the 13 Augusta-area reports in that time, 10 have occurred since 1999.
The most recent report, made anonymously Oct. 29 to the reporting center by a Thomson resident, alerted officials to "a flash of bright white/blue light all around me." The person said he had seen the flash of light three times while driving in a truck near a pump station at Thurmond Lake.
Still, as far as Mr. Copeland is concerned, what he saw was unlike anything experts can explain.
"It came into view and it was out of view just like that," he said. "It was an eerie feeling."
