George W. Bush against Kyoto Protocol. Again.
SAVANNAH, Georgia : Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi came out of the G8 summit here with praise for turning his economy around and support for defusing the North Korean nuclear threat.
But his initiative to protect the environment through emission control and biotechnology received a cool response, with his closest ally among the world leaders, US President George W. Bush, voicing strong opposition to the Kyoto Protocol.
When it comes to environmental protection, Bush, from the oil-producing state of Texas, was blunt, simply saying Washington was against signing the 1997 Kyoto Protocol, which is designed to cut emissions and slow global warming.
Koizumi launched a 3R campaign -- reduce waste, re-use and recycle resources -- on the last day of the summit, pledging to help any countries with technology to minimize waste and emission.
