Increased Sightings Spark UFO and Paranormal Conference in Kansas City
The first annual Mysteries of the Universe Conference is scheduled for June 7 in Kansas City, Missouri at the Intrigue Park Place Hotel from 8:30 am to 9:30 pm. The conference is the first of its type to be held in the area, and was sparked by the recent flurry of UFO activity in the U.S. and increased reports of paranormal activity in Kansas City.
Conference director Margie Kay said, "As a paranormal researcher, I am surprised at the number of UFO sightings and ghost activity reports that are coming in. It is almost like the movie Ghost Busters!" Kay gets reports on a daily basis now, compared to only a few per month just a year ago. This is what prompted Margie to hold the conference here since there is nothing similar that is convenient for KC area residents to get to. "It is time Kansas City had its own UFO and Paranormal event, and hopefully it will continue to grow each year. People need to know that this stuff is real and that more serious study is needed," she said.
Keynote speaker, nuclear physicist Stanton Friedman's topic is "Debunking UFO Debunkers." Friedman is an internationally known UFO researcher and was the first to write about the Roswell incident. Stanton has appeared on Larry King Live, the Discovery Channel, and the History Channel among others. Friedman will autograph books during the conference.
Lecturers include author, paranormal and UFO researcher and radio talk show host Margie Kay, authors Jason Offutt and Bill Hamilton, along with paranormal researcher Chris Brethwaite and UFO researcher Vince White. Topics include ghost hunting, strange stuff in the Midwest, near death experiences, extraterrestrial biological entities, and NASA's agenda with Mars.
A trade show will feature books, periodicals, and merchandise for shoppers.
Registrations must be made in advance due to limited seating. The cost is $59 by May 1, and $69 after May 1.

Aliens caused Sicily fires, say officials
Aliens were responsible for a series of unexplained fires in fridges, TV’s and mobile phones in an Italian village, according to an Italian government report.
Canneto di Caronia, in northern Sicily, drew attention three years ago after residents reported everyday household objects bursting into flames.
TV news footage at the time showed electrical appliances as well as cookers, a pile of wedding presents and furniture smouldering.
Dozens of experts including scientists, electrical engineers and military boffins, arrived in the village 60 miles east of Palermo to investigate the phenomenon.
Arson was quickly ruled out and at one stage an amazed scientist was interviewed after he described how he saw an unplugged electrical cable burst into flames.
Locals were quick to blame supernatural forces and at the time the Vatican’s chief exorcist Father Gabriele Amorth backed up their fears and said: "I’ve seen things like this before. Demons occupy a house and appear in electrical goods. Let’s not forget that Satan and his followers have immense powers."
Now in an interim leaked report published by several Italian newspapers it has emerged that the Civil Protection Department has concluded the most likely cause was "aliens".
The report was ordered by the Italian government and brought together dozens of experts including a NASA scientist. Their two year investigation has cost an estimated £1 million.
According to the report the fires were "caused by a high power electro magnetic emissions which were not man made and reached a power of between 12 and 15 gigawatts."
The report also detailed a possible UFO landing close to the village, citing "burnt imprints which have not been explained were found in a field."
Francesco Mantegna Venerando, Sicily’s Civil Protection chief who coordinated the report, said: "This is not the final report. We are still working on our conclusions and this has been leaked.
"We are not saying that little green men from Mars started the fires but that unnatural forces capable of creating a large amount of electromagnetic energy were responsible.
"This is just one possibility we are also looking at another one which involves the testing of top secret weapons by an unknown power which are also capable of producing an enormous amount of energy."Labels: Aliens, Canneto di Caronia, Francesco Mantegna Venerando, NASA, Sicily, UFO

NASA agrees to search files on UFO incident
NASA has agreed to search its archives once again for documents on a 1965 UFO incident in Pennsylvania.
It's a matter the space agency has fought in federal court, but UFO enthusiasts have refused to let die.
Eyewitnesses claim that something moved across the sky and crashed in the woods about 40 miles southeast of Pittsburgh in December 1965. Traffic was tied up in the area and curiosity seekers were kept away by soldiers. After a search, the Air Force said the likely explanation was a meteor, but nothing was found.
One person claimed to have seen a flatbed truck driving away an acorn-shaped object about the size of a Volkswagen bus.
Four years ago, journalist Leslie Kean sued NASA for information. The space agency turned over several stacks of documents, but Kean says they were not responsive to the request. A federal judge agreed, leading to negotiations and finally NASA's promise to conduct a more comprehensive search.Labels: Leslie Kean, NASA, Pennsylvania, UFO

Hubble Space Telescope successor unveiled by NASA
NASA has unveiled the new telescope that will replace the Hubble Space Telescope in Washington D.C. called the James Webb Space Telescope [JWST]. Currently, NASA has a life-sized model on display to the public which is as tall as a two story house and weighs several tons. Researchers at NASA say that the Webb telescope will be able to see farther than Hubble "to the beginning of time." "It will find the first galaxies and will peer through dusty clouds to see stars forming planetary systems, connecting the Milky Way to our own Solar System," said a statement posted on NASA's website. It will be sent into space where it will orbit nearly 2,000,000 miles from Earth. JWST will have a large mirror, 6.5 meters (21.3 feet) in diameter and a sunshield the size of a tennis court. Northrop Grumman is contracted to build the telescope and will be jointly operated by NASA, the European Space Agency and the Canadian Space Agency. It is scheduled to launch in 2013 from Arianespace's ELA-3 launch complex at European Spaceport located near Kourou, French Guiana. Mysterious hexagon spotted above Saturn
A mysterious giant hexagon lies above Saturn's north pole, captured by cameras on Nasa's Cassini Orbiter.
Spanning 25,000km - equivalent to the width of two planet Earths - the bizarre geometric feature appears to remain virtually still in the atmosphere as clouds swirl around it.

UFO ‘secrets’ could land UK hacker in Gitmo
A UK hacker who broke into dozens of US military computers to find secret evidence of alien life and technology faces up to 70 years in a US prison.
The 40-year-old unemployed systems administrator faces charges of attacking 97 US military and NASA computers between 2001 and 2002. If found guilty, he could face up to 70 years in prison and may even be sent to Guantanamo Bay as a terrorist suspect.
Gary McKinnon will lodge what is likely to be his final appeal against extradition on February 13 next year at London's Court of Appeal. He lost his first appeal against extradition in a High Court hearing last July, but was given leave to take his case to a higher court. If that fails to overturn the extradition order signed by UK Home Secretary John Reid in July, McKinnon's only remaining option to avoid a US trial will be to appeal to the House of Lords. McKinnon is not optimistic of his chances following the Lords' refusal to intervene in the extradition of the NatWest Three, who were extradited to the US in July as part of a £11.5m fraud investigation connected with the collapsed energy giant Enron.
McKinnon has admitted accessing computer systems in the US, including those cited in a US indictment against him. He wanted to find evidence of UFOs, antigravity technology and government suppression of ‘Free Energy', all of which he claims to have gained evidence of through his activities.
In an interview with the BBC, McKinnon said he got into the networks quite easily, simply by using a Perl script that searched for blank passwords. Embarrassingly for the US military, that means computers in the top-secret networks could be hacked using active default passwords.
Unsurprisingly, McKinnon wants to be tried in the UK because he says the crimes were committed on UK soil. He also says he did not damage the systems he trespassed on.Labels: antigravity technology, free energy, Gary McKinnon, hacking, John Reid, NASA, UFO

Does water still flow on Mars? These dramatic new photos seem to indicate yes
The images - released for the first time on Wednesday by the US space agency NASA - were taken earlier this year in an attempt to unlock the secrets of the Red Planet.
Experts have long believed water was to be found on Mars, which is subject to extreme weather conditions. This latest discovery may provide vital proof there was life on Mars and that it is possible for man to land on its arid and rocky surface.
NASA researchers have documented the formation of new craters on the plant's surface and found bright, light-coloured deposits in gullies that were not present in previous photos.
They concluded the deposits - possibly mud, salt or frost - were left there when water recently cascaded through the channels.
In another photo a number of gullies on a crater wall can be clearly seen. The scientists believe that they may have been formed in relatively recent Martian history by erosion caused by flowing, liquid water.

Arctic Ice Melting Rapidly, Study Says
Arctic sea ice in winter is melting far faster than before, two new NASA studies reported Wednesday, a new and alarming trend that researchers say threatens the ocean's delicate ecosystem.
For more than 25 years Arctic sea ice has slowly diminished in winter by about 1.5 percent per decade. But in the past two years the melting has occurred at rates 10 to 15 times faster. From 2004 to 2005, the amount of ice dropped 2.3 percent; and over the past year, it's declined by another 1.9 percent, according to Comiso.
A second NASA study by other researchers found the winter sea ice melt in one region of the eastern Arctic has shrunk about 40 percent in just the past two years. This is partly because of local weather but also partly because of global warming, Comiso said.
The loss of winter ice is bad news for the ocean because this type of ice, when it melts in summer, provides a crucial breeding ground for plankton, Comiso said. Plankton are the bottom rung of the ocean's food chain.
"If the winter ice melt continues, the effect would be very profound especially for marine mammals," Comiso said in a NASA telephone press conference.
The ice is melting even in subfreezing winter temperatures because the water is warmer and summer ice covers less area and is shorter-lived, Comiso said. Thus, the winter ice season shortens every year and warmer water melts at the edges of the winter ice more every year.
Scientists and climate models have long predicted a drop in winter sea ice, but it has been slow to happen. Global warming skeptics have pointed to the lack of ice melt as a flaw in global warming theory.
The latest findings are "coming more in line with what we expected to find," said Mark Serreze, a senior research scientist at the National Snow and Ice Data Center in Boulder, Colo. "We're starting to see a much more coherent and firm picture occurring."
"I hate to say we told you so, but we told you so," he added.Labels: Arctic sea ice, Boulder, Comiso, ecosystem, Mark Serreze, NASA, National Snow and Ice Data Center
